My name is Jackie Cooper and I hold a Diploma in Counselling, as well as a Dip.H.E. in Youth & Community Work and a City & Guilds Further & Higher Ed. Teacher's Cert.  I am a member of the BACP and work within the BACP Ethical Framework, which can be viewed on www.BACP.co.uk

I have many years' experience of working with children, young people and families within  communities across Rotherham, whilst working in the statutory and voluntary sectors.  I have previously worked as a counsellor in a Family Centre and also with young people who have been in the care of the Local Authority.  I am currently employed by a national children's charity, on a part-time basis, working as a counsellor with children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse, and with other family members.

I am qualified as a person centred counsellor and have attended further training and workshops to extend my knowledge and understanding. I use an integrated approach, which draws on a number of counselling techniques depending on client requirements and the issues they present.  By showing empathy, positive regard and respect towards clients, I aim to provide a safe space in which clients can explore and work through issues that affect their lives, enabling them to move forward and work towards a better quality of life - I believe that it is within each of us to find our own ways forward.  It is my job, as a counsellor to stay with clients on their journey, wherever that takes them, at whatever pace they choose, without judging them, giving advice, saying what they should think, feel or say.
